Empress of the Forbidden City – 36″ x 24″

A few months ago I visited the Peabody Essex Museum and took photos of the many robes displayed on wooden dowels.  With that as a starting point I created my own empress, arms extended in a position of power. Within the pattern of her robe in incorporated images of the Great Wall of China.  With all the talk of walls currently in our own country I felt drawn to the statement.
